Say Thank You and Support Future Teachers

When we moved to a new community, my fourth-grade teacher was a tiny "old maid schoolteacher" (as they were called in 1950) with her hair pulled back in a bun. She somehow figured out I couldn't see the blackboard and made sure I got glasses; she sent me for speech therapy to correct my lisp; and she sent me for an IQ test so I skipped fifth grade. She asked about the bruises and burns with which I regularly came to school; because of the school's intervention, I went to live with another family member. She wasn't young or pretty, so I didn't think much of her then, but 58 years later, it's too late. I thank her for my life. – written by an anonymous donor on the Chalkboard of Honor

Has a teacher changed your life or the life of your child or grandchild? You can thank and honor that educator by taking part in a local Chalk WalkSM. If there’s not a walk in your area, you can still participate by recognizing that special teacher on the Chalkboard of Honor.

The Chalk Walk and the Chalkboard aren’t just about publicly saying thank you to great teachers. They are also a chance for great teachers to finally receive a personal thank you. If you give us the address of the teacher you are honoring, we will send them a thank you note. And finally, the Chalk Walk and Chalkboard of Honor will help ensure that the next generation has the talented teachers they need to prepare them for life in a global world. All the money raised will be used for scholarships and other programs to help ensure that we have more great teachers in the future.

May 3-9 is National Teacher Appreciation Week. Now’s the time to thank a great teacher. It just takes a couple of minutes, but the effect will be lasting.
